Dressing Up

So here's the outside of our house and how it has (and still is) developing . . .

I was driving back home from Ellie's dance class, past the Lowe's fields and looked past Larry Gay's pastures and saw yellow!  So I hurried home to take a picture.

 Then a little more was painted . . .

and a little more.

And then, after a long day of driving and house-stuff shopping, Dad said over the phone, "They painted all your trim today.  The grey looks pretty good."  Grey!!??  What?!

The trim was going to match the soffit, facia and drip-edge.  The drip-edge was already up and was a color that we had thought was awfully close to white, called Linen.  But it turned out, when color-matched for paint, and put on larger areas than a 2x3 inch sample card, it looked grey - especially next to yellow.  Bleagh.

I had wanted to see a sample of the trim with the paint before they went ahead with everything.  But we were gone all that day shopping and blah, blah and if-only.  Anyway, we quickly contacted Chad and told him we wanted to re-do it (did I mention that they had painted ALL the trim.  Waah.)  So they re-painted all the trim, and we ordered bright white soffit and facia, too.

This is what the day was like when they were repainting all the trim.  I really think they love me.

Ahhh, that's better.  And we got our rock done, too.

I am really happy with the color of yellow we picked out.  It's not too wild, not too pastel.  It was the first paint chip I picked out, too.  (Remember what I said about picking quickly?  It often does seem to be a gut thing.)  I used to tease mom about her color-psychology comments, but there does seem to be something cheerful about this color.  Maybe it will help with the long, long Huntsville winters.

Paint

Master bedroom is blue.  A lot of people say they like the color, but I might change it some day to a mellower color.
The girls requested pink and they got pink!
The front room is grey.  Though I've had a few people comment on how much they liked the blue color on the walls.  Maybe this should have been our bedroom color?

And last but not least . . . our exterior color which is . . . (drumroll, please - OK, most of you have already seen it by now . . .)

YELLOW!!

More to come . . .

Fireplace

I've had a few magazine cut-outs and photos of fireplaces I like in a file for a while now.  It's nice to know exactly what you want.  Makes things easier.  So, starting out with one main picture, and adding a hearth, and keeping the trim in mind, we came up with our fireplace design.

Starting with this:

Adding a lot of this . . .

And adding a hearth,
we came up with this design . . .
And the (almost) finished product (click to enlarge):

I love how it turned out.

We still need to tile the top of the hearth, no, mantle, no, hearth . . .  hearth.  Yes, hearth.  No sitting on the mantel, please.  You'd have to be really tiny and well, that's just silly.  I think I've got those terms straightened out now.

And, also, that is the paint that we painted just about everything in the place.  It's a nice warm white and I like it.  (I had better like it!)
