Yes, we have a plan. On Thursday, April 22nd, we got our final house plan from Hyrum. We are really pleased with it. I think it will be great.
It is larger than we first anticipated. We expanded the mudroom section back to be flush with the back of the house. We opted for a 3-bay garage. And the unfinished basement and bonus room still add a lot of cost and square footage. It's tough trying to plan a house for now and forever. We do like the plan, but it is going to cost a bit more than we'd hoped.
On Friday, Mike scanned it so we have a pdf of it, and I got to work calling engineers for bids. I'm not sure why, but we thought it might cost about $500 to engineer our plan. Well, so far the highest bid/proposal we've gotten back is around $2000. Another is around $1500, and I anticipate yet another to come in, hopefully around $1000. We'll see. At any rate, it is twice to FOUR times as much as we thought it would be. This is becoming a repeating theme in this process.
I'm becoming very tempted to put off building for another year.
