This pic is fuzzy because it's night - Mike would work all day, then come home and lay conduit until it was too dark to see. (And even then, they'd shine headlights on the trench and keep working.)

In a nutshell: Not much happened this week. And it's such a shame because it was a beautiful, warm, sunny week. And here's the rant:
Why did nothing happen, you ask? Because we had no power. We had no power, because we were naive enough to think that we could get it within a few weeks of dropping off the contract and paying them the big bucks. (Why were we within a few weeks - because it took them months to figure out that yes, indeed, we had recorded property, with a legal description to boot. Didn't matter that we sent them document after document and link after link to the county's webpage showing our parcel, with the legal description, our names and . . . ARGH!) As of the writing of this post (October 6th) it will still probably be a few weeks.
What we did do: Installed conduit for the electrical wire and gas line. Mike, Burl, and our friend Bob did most of it. Brian helped out a lot, too. They are all hero-listed.
When we heard that it was going to be weeks before we could get temporary power from the power company, we bought a big expensive power line that we drew from dad's house. Instead of having to hire an electrician for a few hours to set it up, Dad did it for us. What a blessing. Dad set up the coolest power tower you ever did see, with an old dresser drawer made into the outlet box - with a hood to protect it from the elements. Hero-listed.
Friday, they started framing.
That is a beautiful power tower, indeed. I wish I knew how to do stuff.
ReplyDeletewow - such great adventures. sounds like a lot of red tape and annoying people and then also a lot of great helpers. i love the power tower. that is a crafty dad.
